Hello world!

ASH 061613 Fathers Day

Hello World!  My name is Andrea Sherry Horowitz. I share with you this photo in which I am standing. Norman, that fantastic man standing next to me is my husband, and the love of my life.  Francine, who is seated,  is my wonderful sister and she holds a very special place in our hearts. Francine and I enjoy play based art together, and are thrilled when Norman takes a break from his reading interests and joins in.  We reside at the Horowitz Hacienda in the Pines and have a sweet rescue dog named Sadie.

I began knitting during 1962,  when I was about 7 years old, and lived in Monroe, NY.  I was inspired to learn how to knit by watching my mother knit beautiful sweaters, scarves, and mittens for us.  One of the many gifts I received from my parents was the gift of knitting lessons at our local knitting shop in the Village of Monroe.  Some of the other fiber arts  I enjoy the creative process of doing are needlepoint, latch hook rugs, and crochet.  I find these crafts are a wonderful way in which I become completely relaxed and they are meditative for me.  As a teenager I learned machine sewing.  During my mid-fifty’s I started quilting and began having even more fun being creative with fabrics and threads.   I also find it very relaxing sewing with having needle and thread in hand.  My first quilt, a children’s quilt, was completed by machine and the binding was then sewn by hand using the ladder stitch.  I’ve also made some small art quilts out of tee shirt fabric scraps, while engaged in creative play with zentangle.

There is always something in progress which I look forward to completing.

I love sharing my passion for creating through fiber art, photography, poetry, and storytelling.
